Job Opportunities
This year, ISRO has called for the recruitment of scientist engineer 'SC' with the pay scale of Rs.15600-39100.
Eligibility:
BE/B.Tech with 65% aggregate marks. Those who complete their degree in 2010-11 can also apply.
ISRO notification comes around this time. ours came on feb 5. it is an online application procedure. there is a first level screening based on marks and those who get selected get the hall ticket for the examination. as far as i know, everyone with above 70 percent marks (who had applied) had got selected. the written test would be sometime in april. ours was on 17th. for electricals, applied electronics and ECE, the paper is common. the questions would be from electronics with some questions from communication. last year there were larger number of questions from communication (antenna, digital communication and electromagnetic theory). there were 80 or 90 objective type questions. those who clear the cut off in the test are selected for interview. since the exam was tough last year, the cut off was very low. the people selected for interview would bear a ratio of around 15 : 1 to the number of vacancies. the interview was at bangalore for ECE and tvm for mechanical. the results came sum time around august and joining date was in september. there was also a waiting list which will get called when vacancies arise. the first list was called in december. this year, however, students from iist would pass out so there might be sum change in the vacancies.
Chances of higher studies after joining ISRO:
we are eligible to apply after three years...however the chances of being sent depends on our boss.
Apprehensions about the vacancies being reduced this time due to the IIST students passing out:
i heard that the vacancies would be reduced but dint hear anything about the recruitment being cancelled as such.
Promotions:
there are promotion interviews every 4 years.. salary for my post ( scientist'C') would be around 36000 from which after all deductions u ll get 30000.
Responsibilities for the post of Scientist Engineer
It depends on which section you get posted to. i am in vssc tvm so my area is launch vehicles. in it im in avionics entity and my division works in telemetry which is basically digital communication . it is a design job. as i said , what work you get depends on which section u r in like design, testing, integration, checkout etc. isac, bangalore deals wth satellites and sac, ahmedabad deals with satellite applications..so it all depends on where you get posted
