This is one movie that make you feel strongly against the Hitler's reign and his atrocities. A Jewish Pianist from Warsaw, Poland called Wladyslaw Szpillzman survives the Nazi invasion of Poland. In the process he looses his family, his friends, the people who helped him to hide from the Nazis and finally the German officer who provided him food and shelter after being enchanted by the way he plays the Piano.

Szpillman's family is well educated but being a jew. Jews have to suffer lot of humiliation in the country and are forbidden from public walkways, parks, benches etc and aren't even allowed to keep money. They have to wear a wristband to distinguish them. Then they have to move to a special district just for jews according to a decree by Hitler. Life is hard  there and he has to sell his belongings to pay for food.

From there they meet Itzak Heller who has contacts in the ghetto(german police). Gernan's torture begins from there. The german police get into a jew home opposite to where szpillman stays and shoots the residents in head. They even throw a crippled man om wheelchairs to three floors down. His brother Henryk is caught by the ghetto but he uses itzak to free him. Jews are sent to concentration camps in large numbers by jam-packing them in trains. Szpillman and family are separated  from there when Itzak helps szpillman to slip away .
Szpillman reaches a workers camp where the Jews are put to work by the Germans. He sees Jurek, a fan of his , in a working site. Some of the workers with him are shot but he narrowly escapes. The workers plan to uprise. They smuggle weapons along with the food grains and potatoes. Szpillman finds Jurek's address and goes near her. They give him a hiding place. But from there he happens to see his co-workers killed in combat with the german ghetto.

Jurek visits him to say that they're leaving . He takes his chance staying in the flat itself. But the landlady catches him when she comes hearing the noise of a plate breaking.  He then goes near jurek's sister and they shelter them . He catches jaundice in the flat and finally jurek's sister brings a doctor to treat him.
The germans attack the flat he's hiding in but he escapes hiding in the attic. He spends few days inside the russian hospital on the food stored there. He runs from there and finally reaches a small house. He hides there and with only the meagre supplements like a few cans of tinned food. But a german officer doing his rounds finds him , but is enchanted by his playing the Piano. He gives him food. Finally he tells him that the Russians were approaching and they were leaving and gives him his coat for warming him.

After days , seeing a russian van through  the window, he goes out. They doubt him to be german seeing his coat but soon finds him to be polish. He's saved from there. He then continues his profession as a Pianist in the Warsaw radio station.

Then they show the German officer Hosenfeld trapped in  army camp. He requests a polish who throw jibes at the soldiers in the camp to ask Szpillzmann to save him. But sadly, when szpillsman reaches there, the camp is shifted and finally they provide an end-note that he was killed in an army camp.

Catchy dialogues:
If you prick us, do we not bleed?
If you tickle us, do we not laugh?
If you poison us, do we not die?
And if you wrong us, shall we not revenge?
